At CCVC, we emphasize the importance of keeping your pet healthy by preventing problems and also making early diagnoses to ensure the best quality of life for as long as possible. Yearly wellness exams, heartworm testing and fecal testing, vaccinations, and total parasite prevention (including heartworms, fleas, ticks, and intestinal parasites) are all a part of this plan to ensure your pet is healthy and happy.
Wellness Exams
We recommend once yearly wellness exams. This can be done at the time of a vaccination or heartworm test. Even if your pet is not due for a vaccination, it is extremely important to have him/her examined at least once a year. Our pets age 7 times faster than we do, and they obviously cannot talk to us and tell us if something is wrong. A wellness exam consists of checking your pet’s teeth and mouth for signs of dental disease and infection. Dr. Hahn will also look in your pet’s ears and eyes, listen to their heart and lungs, feel their lymph nodes, feel their belly, check their skin and coat, monitor their weight, and discuss what we recommend to keep your pet healthy.
Heartworm, Flea, Intestinal Parasite Prevention
For every dog we recommend year round heartworm prevention, flea control, tick prevention, and intestinal parasite prevention as recommended by the heartworm society and the CDC for this region. The benefit of this is you also get year round intestinal parasite prevention at the same time. Many intestinal parasites are zoonotic, meaning they can be transmitted to people, especially young children, elderly, and people on chemotherapy. So, it is very important to prevent this from happening. Heartworm disease can be transmitted by one mosquito bite. Please call us for our recommendation for the best products to use for your dog!
For every cat in this area, even if they are just indoors, we recommend flea prevention and a once a year intestinal parasite treatment, as well as checking a fecal sample.
